Translation:

This activity is the last one before we go ahead and start planning our own advertisements. What I would like you to do is choose an advertisement in one of the newspapers supplied in class. Deconstruct your chosen advertisement like you have been shown in the previous lessons. Remembering to address:

  • Target audience
  • Semiotics
  • context
  • lighting
  • sterotype
  • message
  • codes and conventions.
  • what you will representing,

Once you have submitted this to your journal I want to now translate this Newspaper advertisement to a film advertisement. No, you will not be making the advertisement, but you will be creaating all the prework for it. However, there is a catch. You will have to 'repackage it' to suit a different demographic or target audience. So, an advertisement offering a new diet plan to overweight youths will now have to a new diet plan for the elderly. Remember things like diaogue, written langauge, entice the elderly to the prune diet. Key things to do in your plan

  • Description of the 'repackaging'
  • using the storyboard webstie to create storyboard and shot sequence
  • list of props
  • symbols present to heighten the message
  • write a reflection in your journals on how your message was coneyed and whether you thought it was a success. Also detail how you think you went, commenting on whether you think the commerical would be convincing
  • finally tell me where/when/and what demograpic the add is aimed at. I want the context!
